Appointments, Appointments

Well, I have now entered my final month of pregnancy...yay! That means many doctor's appointments as I have to see the doctor every week now until the end. I've had to reschedule my appointments a few different times already, so hopefully they stay the way they are now. Plus, I am getting Kiera immunized tomorrow. :( She got her 2-month, 4-month, and 6-month shots, but then I did some research and read articles on how a child's brain isn't fully developed until the age of 2 and how their bodies are much better able to handle immunizations after the age of 2. I know every parent has to decide what's best for their child, so this is the way we've decided to do things with Kiera. The articles said to start at age 2 (which we didn't) and then get each round done every 6 months after that. Since Kiera will be 2 years old this month, tomorrow she will get her 12-month shots and then in another 6 months she will get her 18-month shots. With this next baby, we're going to wait until age 2 to start. When I called to book her appointment, the lady said, "My next opening is on Nov. 6th." I said, "I have a baby due on Nov. 2nd, so I don't think that will work." Then she said, "Oh, well let me see if I have anything earlier.....how's this week Friday?" I was wondering why she didn't just offer that to me in the first place, but I think they keep slots open specifically for people who can't make it at a later date.

A new recent development is that Kiera has been shortening her afternoon nap. It used to be 3 hours and now it's 2 hours. I know I can't complain because she's a phenomenal sleeper and she still sleeps 12-hour nights most nights (usually 9:00-9:00ish). I just have to get used to having less "me" time in the afternoon.

Life is busy and yet it feels like time is slowing down a bit as the due date is approaching soon. Between doctor's appointments, Jared's new job, our 3 birthdays this month, and multiple family gatherings, I would think that the days would be racing by, but that's not the case. Oh well. I know our lives will be forever changed soon enough by the arrival of this baby, so I will enjoy being just the 3 of us for a bit longer. :)

Take it one day a time, enjoy the moment you are in! Soon and really soon you'll meet the new little one. Hang in there. Love Mom

I've postponed Carter's shots too. He also got his 2, 4, & 6 month shots (though, he got his 4 month at 6 and his 6 month at 8). I'm thinking we may even wait until he goes to school to get the rest of his. There's too much uncertainty in whether the shots cause problems or not when administered at such a young age. The next one won't be getting any shots until much older too.

I'm so excited for you as the time is nearing! Hope your days do go by faster; I know the last few weeks are so hard!

BTW, we delayed the 1st 3 immunizations for all our babies by four months (2-month shot at 6 months, etc), and I'm about to do Seth's one year shot (he's almost 2) so you're definitely not alone! I always feel so stupid and defensive trying to explain our decision to stubborn doctors! So it's nice to hear of other parents going the same route.
