I’m experiencing a bit of pregnancy insomnia again and I had these thoughts about the kids rolling around in my head, so I’m up at 4:30 a.m. typing this out! I had some sleep issues at the beginning of my pregnancy and it’s been much better since then, but one night this past week-end I was up from 4-5:30 and now I’m up again. I figured it’s been a while since I’ve done a more detailed blog post about the kids, so it’s time.
Kiera has been completely done with diapers since sometime in January or February. One night, she just decided she wanted to start wearing underwear to bed, so we let her. She had a few accidents in the first couple of weeks, but has been good ever since. Praise the Lord! She has now entered the “why” stage which is interesting. I let it go on for a little while and then it usually ends with me answering, “Just because,” or “I don’t know.” After many suppertime battles with her, things have been improving! Now, she’ll usually finish her food, even if she doesn’t really like it. That is a miracle! She has also been learning to calm herself down a lot quicker when she gets really upset about something. I see the grace of God at work!
Blake still isn’t talking a lot, at least not in English, but he is starting to try to repeat us more! Yesterday, he was “reading” a book and he kept pointing and saying, “Boo ba! Boo ba!” I looked and realized he was pointing at and trying to say, “Pooh Bear!” I was impressed! He’s a lot smarter than I give him credit for. The other day, he crumpled up a cracker on the couch and there were crumbs everywhere. He left the room and came back with the little broom and dustpan and started sweeping the couch! That didn’t work very well, so then he left again and came back with the big broom! Kiera never did anything like that. He totally “gets it.” He understands a lot of what we ask or tell him to do. When I tell him it’s time for a diaper change, he either goes to the couch and lies down, or he runs in the opposite direction. When I tell him it’s time for a bath, he walks straight to the bathroom. He points to my tummy and says, “Baby,” although I know he doesn’t really understand. He’s just been trained to say that. He also started feeding himself with utensils way sooner than Kiera did. He’s been feeding himself for a few months already and I think Kiera started closer to age 2. It’s so interesting to see their different strengths.
Kiera will be exactly 3 1/2 years old this week and Blake will be exactly a year and a half next week and then it’s 3 months until the baby is due! People keep saying, “Oh, you have a ways to go yet,” but for me, the pregnancy is flying by and August is going to be here before I know it! A couple of weeks ago, at cell group, I asked for prayer that things would be more peaceful at home between the kids and that I would be slow to anger. Kiera would either hit or push Blake as soon as I would leave the room and I got very frustrated with that. She still does sometimes, but it’s improving, so I pray it continues to as I can’t always be in the same room as them once this baby arrives. I’ve also not been as quick to get so mad most of the time, but that will be something I need to keep praying about. It’s almost 5 a.m. now, so I’m going to try to go back to sleep, which I can usually do after I get up and do something. Good night, or should I say good morning?!
